Derby Daily Express, 7th June 1915 and 3rd December 1915 Edward Murphy was residing in Haarlem Street, Derby, and he was the son of Mrs. Roe, of 49, Jackson Street, Derby. He had served in the Leicestershire Regiment for thirteen years, part of which had been spent in India. He had served in the South African War, and was in Ladysmith during the siege. Upon leaving the army, he joined the reserve and was employed at Messrs. Fletcher's foundry. On the outbreak of war, he was recalled to his old regiment, and was killed in the battle for Hill 60, at the age of 33.
